STAYING PRODUCTIVE IN KENYAN “WINTER”

Extreme weather makes working difficult due to physical discomfort, from the environment being too hot or cold. Studies have shown that when temperatures are 20 degrees Celsius or lower employees commit 44% more errors and are less than half as productive as when temperatures are warmer (a cozy 25 degrees). Cold employees weren't just uncomfortable, they were distracted.
It is Kenyan winter and we are experiencing some of the lowest temperatures ever recorded. So how can you stay productive and keep up at work in the cold?

Fill Up: Eating health and warm foods can help you stay warm and lift your mood as you go through your day. Foods such as soups, hearty stews and warm veggies are great for colder days. One can also fill up on warm drinks such as lemon water, hot cocoas, teas and coffees. Comfort food is good!

Dress Warm: It goes without saying that the colder it is the warmer you should dress. However heavy clothing can get uncomfortable especially in indoor, busy working areas; to avoid getting too hot, layer different clothing items to take off some as you get warmer through the day. This clothing items include scarfs, coats, sweaters et cetera which can be removed or worn depending on how you feel.

Warm area:If you run or own a space in areas where temperatures can be extreme it is worth considering to have AC/heater units to ensure that your employees can be comfortable hence productive at work. It is also ideal to have warm drinks and beverages such as teas and coffees for use by your team

Stay Active : Exercise is one of the holy grails of productivity not only will it warm you up as the temperatures drop but there's evidence that exercise increases the blood supply to their brain and promotes the growth of new neurons (adult neurogenesis) in the hippocampus, a brain area that is essential for learning and memory
